I have been feeding my young Heterochaeta orientalis D. Hydei fruit flies but have just run out of adult flies. I see that several of the larvae have entered the pupae stage. I've noticed that my mantid seems to enjoy eating the larvae. Is it okay to feed him the larvae until the adult flies are ready?

Thanks!

The larvae are fine as long as your little guy is eating. I suggest switching to house flies soon though.

Thanks for the replies! Do you think he's big enough for house flies already or should I wait for his next molt? He's only about 4cm long at the moment.

You'd be surprised what small nymphs can tackle. I'd go ahead and order some house fly spikes or pupae.
