I am really upset that my one and only male ghost is sick. I raised him from L4 and he is subadult, which is such a shame, since he is supposed to be the future mate for my lovely green female.
So this is what happened:
*warning: some details may be a bit gross, so don't read further if you just had dinner!*
About ten days ago, he seemed very hungry one day and ate two small crickets.
Last week, I noticed something strange with his poop - the poop seemed to clump together at his rear end, and I had to manually wipe it off.
Last Saturday, I noticed that he pointed the tip of this abdomen downwards, similar to the position a female takes while calling, and spewed a little bit of brownish liquid. I assume that is diarrhea?
Last Sunday, he molted to subadult.
Yesterday, I noticed some light brown spots of liquid in his enclosure. I wasn't sure which end it came from, because I was at work during the day. I tried giving him water, but he refused to drink I fed him a little honey, but all he did was to wipe his mouth (even though he did not vomit).
Today after I get home, I notice a few more darker brown spots of liquid. I again tried offering him some water, but when disturbed, he suddenly started vomiting a tan colored liquid. He looks weaker than yesterday, and I'm sure he is dehydrated, but I am unable to get him to drink anything.
I don't know what to do at this point. I've had a few cases of mantids vomiting before, but they always recovered after drinking some honey and/or water. And yes, I do keep my crickets for 24+ hrs just to make sure they're fine.
