HAs anyone tried using these as feeders before? I've heard that the hatchlings are about the same size as melanogasters, which would make feeding nymphs easier. I;ve heard lots about fruit flies and house flies but never about roaches.

I use them and they are a very good feeder. The nymphs are tiny but not as small as melongaster from what I can remember. You can feed them to 1cm slings. I tweaser feed them to my mantises as they are really quick and have a tendency to run for cover when dropped into an enclosure. If your looking for a tiny roach, pallid roaches are good too, pallids are climbers so need a vasiline barrier to prevent escapees. Nymphs are as small D hydei

I use red runners, (also known as Turkistan roach), as feeders. I have 2 colonies of them right now with tons of babies. They are great feeders for mantises. Newborn nymphs are about 3mm long. Adults are about the size of an adult cricket. They are very fast but do not climb plastic/glass. So they will stay on the ground unless the mantis habitat is a mesh cage. My mantises love them.
