Sadly, have lost one of our five Chinese mantises. She just stopped eating. Tried to revive her with a tiny dish of water, plus honey and cricket guts, and she twitched a little but seems gone. :(

Sorry to hear that. That'll be the only unpleasant thing about owning mantids, the end of their short lives.

They are so personable, friendly, and intelligent. Seems very unfair that their lives are so short.
I know, it's crazy. They're in a different league all together when it comes to insects. My partner didn't think she would like them, but as soon as she held my mio egyptian nymph and saw them looking curiously back at her she fell in love. They look right back at you, consciously, like we look at them. It's insane when you think about it.

They are probably checking us out the same way we're observing them. Trying to make a break for it already though, they can dash up your arm in a second if they want to.

Sorry for your loss; it seems that if something goes wrong for a mantis, there is very little we can do.

Thank you all for your replies. We only have four left. Am afraid to look at them every day fearing the wirst. I wish they lived longer. I took photos but have to figure out how to get them from my camera to my computer to here.
