Hi,

Just wondering if anyone know roughly how many nymphs will hatch from a S. limbata ootheca (assuming that it is the first ootheca after the mantis was mated)?

Thanks!

Quite a few. It is hard to predict. It depends on the size of the ooth. But in my experience a large ooth will give you many hatchlings.

Thanks guys. One more question. How long does it take to hatch a S. limbata ooth? Is it necessary to over-winter? Thanks!

I'm currently over-wintering my Limbatas because the environment I caught them in gets really cold in the Winter. I'll bring them in around March or April to incubate and hatch. This is my first time with Limbatas so I don't know if they need to over-winter but I'm guessing they do. It would be good to over-winter them because it will be warmer in the Spring and you can release some of those extra nymphs back into the environment.

I don't know how long it takes for them to hatch.
