Well I am sorry to say my last female is gone, she laid a deformed egg a couple of days ago and just never seemed to recover. She just kept getting weaker and weaker. I am just hoping it is nothing that I did or should of done.

These were my fist mantis I hatched them from one of a few ooth I had purchased in the spring. They all did very well I released a bunch in my yard and a bunch at the office at work. We had such a good time spotting them and watching them grow. The few I kept in the house did very well until it was time to lay an ooth.

Now the question is do I get some more babies and try again, I would love to just have a couple of one species I am just so fascinated with them. I see pictures of different species and think that I would love to try a few.

Goodbye Sweet Girl we will miss you.

If your mantid is a native or naturalized species, it's normal at this time of year. It's getting colder and they are going to kick the bucket. Whether your ooths hatch will depend on whether they've been mated.

:( Sorry. They don't live long enough at all. I too started with just one...... Now I have lots :) Each one has their own way of acting. I say go for it :)

Welcome to the hobby. Mantids have short lives. That is one fact everybody has to come to terms with if they want to be in this hobby.

I am feeling so sad today. My Chinese mantis is getting old and I thought she'd live a little longer, but she's getting more and more lifeless. I wish...well I just wish she can live longer! :( :( :(

My mantis died yesterday. :( I'm feeling so sad, I came home after work, expecting my mantis to sit on my desk, looking at me with her big green eyes. :(
