How long has the male been an adult? They usually are ready to mate between 10 - 14 days after their final molt.

I've been raising B mendica for two years now. I usually leave the male in with the female for up to two weeks without issues. Of course, that's always a risk. I have one pair that was dying of old age right now. I thought I might have my first male that died of old age along with the female. He had lived with the female for about 3 months as an adult. He had lost parts of his legs and was falling apart. I thought about ending his life yesterday but he was still eating. Last night she finally ate him.

My experience with this species is that the females will usually mate with the males 3 or more times before they decide to eat them. I understand if why you may not be able to take the risk if you only have one male.

Good luck.

Thanks, Tammy. They are both 2 weeks, molted on the same day. I will try again tomorrow :)
