Recently I purchased a Congo Green (Saturday) it was the biggest in the store and so seemed a good purchase as i identified it as having entered its last molt. however a few days on (Tuesday) it became apparant something was wrong the wings are heavly distorted and movement dosn't seem fluid at all. i have also identified that there seems to be limited mobility between the abdomen and upper half of the body however the mantis seems to be very active.

Could you please examine the image the images below and let me know if this is normal following a shed and how long it will take for mobility to be restored.

It's mismolted. You purchased it this way? What you see is what you get. Sadly this mantis will remain in the state that it is in right now. :(

Sorry about your bad luck, you win some and you lose some. :(

I never thought of shooting on a coffee background. :p

Its actually a blue towel guess the camera tinted it :>

He was Mid Shed when I purchased but given the circumstances I didn't want to interfere with the Jar but I Knew it was overcrowded.

I am capable of getting a refund though i am apprehensive over the matter as if he stands a chance at survival without suffering i'd prefer to offer him that. what are the implications for keeping him as is? Is he likely to be suffering?

It's hard to say as your pics are a little fuzzy, if its only the wings that are damaged it's not such a big deal, but if the back is bent(can't really tell) it may be not so good.

Many of us here have cared for mismolts, it just depends on how far your willing to go, hand feeding can come into play.

I wish you the best of luck what ever you do. :)

Best Regards ,Nick

You know what, that last pic looks more like a sheild mantis. And if it can move around and eat it should be ok. ;) Later today I will post a pic on a poor mantis....

Hmmm Well he has some mobility but its hard to describe his movements the upper section of the body is stuck as it is he cannot move it around at all he's stuck bent over though I don't know if this is normal or not though I doubt it is.

The images are indeed a bit fuzzy but I lack a better camera.

I just want to do what is best for him ^^

Thanks for all the replys.

I would try to get a refund if I were you. Although if you have the option, keep him and get a new one! Just say he died and bring in a picture... lol!
