If you keep a mantis, do they NEED light at nightime. If it's in my room, and i turn my light off to go to bed, is this ok? will it harm the mantis?

Darkness wont hurt them since it is not forever. When they get shipped they dont have light for up to a couple days. So, in my noobie opinion, no light at night is not a problem.

In the wild, night time isn't lighted 24/7 though the mantis may encounter upon street lights only for a short period of time. So I'd say no, mantids don't need light at night.

Think about your question. Do mantids have 24 hours of light in the wild? No.

It seems you were asking if it would be ok to turn the light off. I don't think it matters either way.

The rule of thump when wanting to keep a pet or plant successfully is to mimic their natural environment as best as possible. This includes photoperiod.
