Snake Mantid?

Hi all!

A few months back i noticed a large number of mantid nymphs running around my yard. they were completely transparent and very delicate. I had seen huge mantids in my garden in previous years so decided to keep a couple of these and see what they might become. Much to my surprise, when i looked into the enclosure this morning, the male had moulted to adult! Hes only about 2cm (approx 1 inch?) long. i have no idea what he might be! im in Australia so we dont really have that many species to choose from. Heres a pic i took this morning:

And heres a pic i found of a 'snake mantid'. Could this be it?

Kongobatha diademata does look like the mantis in your picture. That's not a well document species on the Internet, that's for sure.

thats the mantis found in singapore

I think it is an odonto mantis

their too tiny and fragile for me

Tell me about it! I was hoping it would grow into something bigger I have an immature female too. Perhaps she'll be a bit bigger.

What species of mantid are common in Australia?

Orthodera - both the common garden variety and the new zealand mantid

Pseudomantis albofimbriata

Archimantis latistyla

Sphodropoda tristis

Tenodera australasiae

...

more that i cant think of...some bark masntids ...

you dont really see any but those listed aboveand then the last two very rarely and only in bushland.

Id say Pseudomantis albofimbriata, the fake garden mantid. simply because i see their ooths everywhere. quite a few new zealands and many archimantis but most of the latter that i find are parasitised!
