all my blue bottle pupae have hatched!!! :( I HAVE THEM all in small deli cups, 500 per cup. they're all chillen on the top, i stored them in the fridge.

how long before they die? 1 week OK?

do i have to get them in a cage and feed them sugar/buttermilk powder and water... or keeping them in 39 degrees keeps them a live for a week???

hope i didn't just lookse tons of flies LOL

What will we do with you, Brian? You were supposed to put the pupae in the fridge as soon as the maggots pupated. If you did, and they eclosed anyway, then you need to turn the temp down a bit.

So instead of shipping pupae, you'll be shipping chilled adults? That should be interesting!

When I get mine, I shall put any survivors directly into a net cage. Rebecca is much more expert on this than I, but in the past, I have been unable to keep them alive for longer than a week in a net cage. I'd suggest spritzing them before you leave home and as soon as you get back. Also, put a little honey on the netting on the top of the cube in addition to the dry food inside the cube.

The only thing is, if you keep them in a cage, how are you going to count them for sale? I have counted 1,500 houseflies. It isn't fun, especially if they try to fly away when you get to 789!

On the bright side, you certainly help keep this forum interesting!

I'll light a special candle for you before the shrine of the Great Mantis Goddess (Blessed be Her Name).

Oh, you bought all those flies to resell? Well you should have sold them as pupa like Phil said. You can keep them in the fridge, I do that sometimes if they hatch before I am ready.

Mine never last a week, cause I have too many mantis, they are suppossed to live a month, that's the story, and outside they probably do, unknown inside, call Pam and ask her. I go thru a few thousand a day, so sorry, any left overs are placed in fridge and used next day.

wow! how many adult mantis do u have? LOL

i know, i totally screwed this up! lol lesson learned. keeping them a live is easy, in a net cage. keeping them a live in the fridge is something i have no knowledge of...yet.

i actually brought them with me to vermont, theyre all in the fridge. i'll ship you them in the cups they hatched in. theyre all still in the cups they hatched in, i caught them just in time! i would of had 10,000 bb flies in my mantid room instead of just the 50+ that i caught easily.

man, i really thought they took 2 weeks, not 1 week! LOL!
