I have recently added some mantids to my collection. I never knew that these bugs would be so addicting. I have had them for about two weeks and all have molted successfully; some twice. Sorry about the quality of the pics.

This is Red radio. It is a hierodula majuscula that was red when it arrived but turned green after its last molt. Not sure if it is male or female though, but it is a glutton. It was also the larger of the two I kept (gave a few to my sister).

This is shamrock; another hierodula majuscula. It sometimes just kills prey and doesn't eat it. Thought it just like to kill but saw her pick up a dead fly and eat it today.

And these are my Idolos. Haven't named them yet, but will soon.

Here is a vid of my budwing eating her favorite treat; boxelder bugs. She molted finally to L-7 the other day. She has little black wing now. So cute.

very nice and good idea using the nickle for size reference...i just got 8 new L-1 Phyllocrania paradoxa ghosties today!!!

I will have to take pics later & post

no, ghost ooth I think is dud...watching the two gongy ooths I got from Ghozt

I picked up the ghosties today from TransAm...he lives 30 mins from me

Great pics... I love the color shift on the H majuscula, I am enjoying watching that. I might have to put together a little progression of molts pic series for each of mine, it'd be fun.

Hertarem:

yup...California rocks. of the 18 mantids I have cared for so far...all have been local pick ups or drop offs.

only mailed mantids so far are my two gongy ooths from Ghozt in Vegas.

Mvalenz:

very nice hierodula majuscula...may have to look into this species too.

It's great to have mantid loving neighbors nearby :) Wow Mantiscurious local pick ups and drop offs? Sounds good to me. As for the moment I am without Mantids :( But eagerly waiting for the ones in the mail!! Nice pictures and video Mvalenz. Sometimes I think those idolos look like they just woke up from an all nighter still dressed in their fancy outfit lol. Love them!!

you are like 30 minutes from me in O.C and there are quite a few members close by

make friends on the forum and start with a couple easy species...

one that will eat almost anything and is very forgiving as far as temp and humidity is Sphodromantis lineola

here is Gretta:

Yeah, the local thing must be nice. There is virtually no one in illinois by me.
