Joosa,

great looking S. purpurea! I live those color blends....they get such a beautiful maroon - have you seen the flower? It should be quite a magnificent color.

Where did you aquire the Sarracenia X, and what substrate / live mossy fun is going on there??? Beautiful! I have some sort of rather generic pitcher plant that I love, and while it is green and growing, no pitchers have grown large for months! Do you have any idea why this might be?

I got the X 'Black and Red' from a grower in Houston, TX. The X 'Judith Hindle' were from my local Trader Joe's. I do not know what species of moss is growing in the pot. I do know that it arose from the top layer of sphagnum at the top, however the one that is now actively growing does not look like sphagnum.

Your Sarracenia is experiancing dormancy. In winter, all Sarracenia should experience a dormancy period of about 3 to 4 months. During this time the plant stops growing and may even look dead. However, once spring roll along in conjunction with increased temperatures and photoperiod the plants will wake up, flower (if mature) and resume growing. If you live in the northern hemisphere and in non-topicial areas, you plant must have fallen into dormancy if it was grown outside.

Don't worry too much. Just keep it just moist and wait for it to wake up.

thanks for the info! carnivorous plants are amazing, i need more! do you have a lead on any underground carnivorous plant dealers? lol. ^_^

those are pretty cool looking... i guess they wouldn't be good to put in a mantis enclosure   i think i might have to try one of these carnivorous plants!

Joosa: Thanks for posting those amazing pics of another part of nature, carvivorous plants. I will look up some more info now that you have my curiosity perked to a high degree.
