Hi y'all,
I've had my female Thistle Mantis, Flora, for about 6 weeks now, and she seems very healthy and active. However, she has already laid 3 ooths for me. Her first one came 2 weeks into owning her (I do believe it was her first, because she didn't lay one in transit and unfortunately transit was delayed 3 days so that was a 5 day ordeal). It was about the same size as most Carolina ooths, about an inch long. I was feeding her a moth, a soldier fly or a meal worm in rotation every other day. She laid another ooth only about 12 days later, so I was concerned I was feeding her too much. I changed the pattern to every 3rd day for feeding and she's laid yet another ooth about 2 weeks after again, but this time half the size as before. Is this normal for this species to pump out ooths so fast? And is the decreased ooth size an indicator that I'm still not feeding her at appropriate intervals? Any advice would be helpful.
