i recently got 3 mantids from a local reptile store and all they could tell me is that the species was from Africa. so i know its a Sphodromantis but i dont know what they are exactly. i was wondering if anyone could help identify them. Heres some photos.

I tried to get some good shots of the insides of her arms but my camera isn't to good. if you need more photos from different angles feel free to ask! thanks!

I don't have anything to add identification-wise, but I just wanted to say: very pretty wing patterns. (And I wish pet stores here sold mantids!)

I don't know anything about identification either, but, she sure is pretty, ;) good luck with her! :)

Sphodromantis lineola is where I'll put my money. I have kept them for quite some time and my newest batch is molting to adult. I love Sphodromantis. I'm currently keeping "blue flash", lineola, and viridis.

Here's an older pic of my lineola with an ooth.

I can see how she looks like a lineola! but her eyes do not have any blue like the one in the photo. But other then that it looks exactly the same!

Colors for all mantids vary greatly even for the same sp. lineolas can be green or be brown with blue, red, brown or green eyes.

I have a few grisea. All are male but most of them look different from each other, some are white/grey, black/grey or green..

I hope you get better answers to suit your needs. I was just pretty sure it was a lineola. I have been wrong before and quite recently actually. What is YOUR id? Got a better guess?
