How unlikely would it be for a mantis to have been mated then to expel the spermataphore to be fertilized or is it possible before it was expelled to have released its contents into the female!

If you see one most likely she was fertilized. The remnants are often left behind and drop off.

 
Well I did mate my other female shield which lasted for 14 hours and the male survived and she did not reject the spermataphore so hoping bothfemales are fertile and will lay hatchable ooths!
