My viritis ooth will be a month old in 2 days.

I have it on the screened lid of a large plastic jar about 10'' tall and it's on a UTH

at about 90F, which only warms the bottom few inches up.

So, I also have a 60W reptile basking lamp above the ooth about 12'' away and the

temp (using a laser thermometer) at the ooth is 85F.

I have the jar half full of raffia with a few inches clearance just below the ooth.

I also put a little water, maybe a tablespoon, on the floor every other day and the room

RH is between 50 and 55% all the time.

I there a way I could push it and make the ooth hatch faster?

The jar has a 4'' round hole cut out and screened using hotglue as a vent window, so

no condensation ever forms on the inside due to the good ventalation.

Any suggestions? Or am I already doing everything I can?

Mine took 2 months just at room temp (70-75) and regular spritzing. I also have humidity of 50-55% by humidifier at all times. I've kinda stopped waiting for ooths to hatch. I know when they'll hatch, when they've hatched. I was wondering if they were going to hatch seeing as most of the ooths I'd been hatching were taking about a month. But that was summer/fall and the room was a lot warmer then.

My viridis ooth took 50 days to hatch. I keep them at room temp but on a high shelf so they get a few extra degrees (between 69 at night and high 70's to low 80's by day). I mist in the container every day, and lightly mist the ooths directly every few days. By this method I got well over 100 nymphs if not closer to 200.

The more heat you supply the better chance of drying out the ooth and killing it. You really don't have to go through much trouble. Basically just leave it be and don't let it dry out or get too wet. Pretty simple.

Then do you think having a basking lamp over it may dry it out?

The lamp is really more for my violins, which are in a 12'' cube with their own UTH.

The lamp is really over the cube but the ooth is right next to it, so it gets some of the light.
