A few days ago I thought that it was time to pair up my blue flash. I have two males (well one is my little sisters ) and one female. I gave the girly an adult cricket and then place the male (my sister's) in a position behind her like I do when breeding any mantis. I left the room and shut the door to come back and check 20 min or so. He was moving closer but at a very slow pace.
So after about an hour I go check and see that she is done with the cricket and now the two mantis are close and facing each other. This worried me some so I decided to give her another cricket. When I offered the cricket, she instead chose the male mantis! She caught both of his arms and had them in a very tight grip.
My gf took a pic while I was busy trying to save this poor guys life!
Ok so after about 3 min I managed to free the male with no damage and put him back into his enclosure. My 12 year old sister was not happy about this because it was her mantis  . Then I had to track down that cricket running around in my room. Finally caught it and gave it to the big girl you gladly took it. My gf and sister wanted to give up for the night but I was determined! So then I got my male mantis out and put him near her and he noticed her and jumped on her right away, and I mean JUMP! Only problem was he was on backwards and had to turn around  !
They started mating and all was a success ! This was around 9 P.M. and I kept checking on them throughout the night and even gave her another cricket (her 3rd of the night!) just to be safe. Around 12:30 A.M. there were still together and I was tired so I just shut the door and went to bed. At 8 A.M. when I woke to check on them, they were still together! They were apart around 9 so they mated for close to 12 hours!
Never had that before! I say breeding was a success with no injuries but a close call. These girls are aggressive!
