Nice job!

My female just molted to adult a few days ago. Looking forward to breeding them. I like this species better than Blue Flash (Sphodromantis sp.).

Are they aggressive when breeding?

These were pretty simple going. They weren't interested the first go 'round, but I gave them a couple of days and bingo bango. I like them, because they're BIG. They are also quite gentle. They could do more damage, if more aggressive with their raptoral arms(very spiky). Unlike those Blue flash crazy, vicious things. I think they hatched po'd (But...I do love the vicious ones).

I agree. The temperament of viridis is much nicer. Plus they're even bigger than sp. That's win-win in my book.

Nice job. I just mated my Chinese and Carolinas, and now have a very large (almost 1.125" x 0.25"!) ooth from a WC (Pregnant when caught) female Carolina.

I got this female mated with a different male on the 30th and when I got home this afternoon I had a birthday present waiting. I'm excited. It's a BIGGUN!

Awesome! Now that I'm back from vacation I need to get my female mated. The males are so rough and clumsy though. She already got holes in her wings from their raptors piercing when they tried unsuccessfully to mount. Any tips?

Perseverance. These have mated pretty readily and easily. If the male's not interested, try again later. I find this species to be a "gentle giant". Their spikes are amazing and they are very strong. It scares me sometimes, but they don't mean to be "hurtful". It just takes some strength to lug those huge bodies around.

I have 3 mated females now. 2 females have laid 1 ooth and have both been mated another time. The third will also be mated once an ooth is deposited.

Good Luck

Here's the most recent pairing. All off to the side...AND IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

Woke up this morning to a freshly laid ooth. It must have been a strenuous ordeal, because when she finished laying it, she just stopped and the ooth was hardened and still attached. After a couple of pictures it just disengaged and she just stayed there, resting.

Nice. Any idea on incubation time?

I'm going to try to mate mine tomorrow along with the Rhombodera and Orchids. Gonna be a love fest... or maybe a love feast.

I didn't even think about incubation time. :helpsmilie: Do you have any ideas??? I am thinking like most of the ooths I've hatched, it should be at least 4 weeks. That's when I start really checking on them. I will ask the person I got the nymphs from if they have any information on hatch time.

It's "popping" time for my Rhombodera ooth, but it hasn't happened yet. :( I know she was mated plenty. Now is when I start getting anxious.

Good luck with your orchids and get some up for sale so I can buy some.

I hear everything from 1 to 3 months for different Sphodromantis so we'll just have to play it by ear.

I have two adult female Orchids and one male that's pushing a month old so I hope he holds on for another week or two when they'll be ready. Fingers crossed...

WOOT WOOT! Good work.

I now have my third mated after her ooth. When I checked on them this evening I was shocked. They both had each other in a death grip, but in such a way that neither one could actually bite or chew any part of the other. It was a frightful siight! I jumped into action and grabbed them both by the thorax. Fortunately they were quick to release each other without any damage. It was lucky I checked on them when I did. WHEW! :sweatdrop:

So now I have 2 ooths from each of my 3 females and no hatches yet. I'm hoping that incubation might be a little longer due to the size of the nymph developing. I could be wrong. Most of my ooths have been hatching in about a month and recently I've noticed an increase in time. It could be just cooler temps=longer incubation. Either way, I'm waiting patiently.

Does anybody have any experience with incubation time and requirements for these???
