Found a common field spider in my bathroom this evening. That simply is not allowed. So I coaxed her/him with a Popsicle stick (which she bit) into a small feeder container.

He's/She's about 1cm in body length and very dark brown with no marking that I could see. Her face is flat in front covered with large chelicerae, typical of field, wolf and some tunnel web species.

Should I put her in Scott's cage (Scott is a newly-captured Scutigera coleoptrata) and see who devours whom? Should I give her to one of the mantids (I'm always very reluctant to give any venomous feeder to my pets). Or throw the spider outside??

Her fate is in YOUR hands!

Toe - She's been identified as a female Tegenaria domestica. Decided to keep her away from my mantids due to the small but real risk of a bite. I'd never forgive myself. I also have Scott, a newly-acquired Scutigera coleoptrata (house centipede) who would probably be very thankful for a spidey dinner. I take it your an arachnid defender?

If you're running low on feeders or wish to vary Scott's diet, use it. Otherwise let it go. I like spiders and don't kill them unnecessarily, but they sometimes get eaten too.

yes i am i have 4 tarantulas and they are all amazing i also have a centipede. a giant asian red headed centipede to be precise. i guess i just love all insects haha. do with it what you wish. but there are many other things you can feed you centipede :p

Toe,

The Tegenaria domestica lost the hunt.

This morning I found the spider shriveled in Scott's cage. Scott was on the side of the condo belching rudely and licking his fangs. He was noticeably fatter. Frankly, I was a little surprised seeing the size of the spider. A true demonstration of how efficient these house centipedes can be in keeping your home pest-unfriendly.

So his name is Scott Peterson then huh?

GG,

Don't know who Scott Peterson is. No "Scott" was quickly derived from Scutigera coleoptrata. Come to think of it, "Scoot" would have been the perfect name - Much closer to "Scut" and they run like lightning.
