I have a wild caught female Chinese Mantis I found back in early Oct. I was expecting her to have already died. I really didn't expect her to live much past Oct. However she is still alive and semi-active. She still hunts and eats well. Does anyone have any idea on when she might die?

We found a male chinese about a week or so after we found her and he died about a month ago.

Just checking to see if it's common for wild caughts to live this long after becoming captive.

Thanks for any thoughts.

yes, kept in warmer conditions w/ food, they can live a few weeks longer than they do in the wild. females also live longer than males. enjoy her while she's still around!

Not unusual. She probably won't last much longer though. They can die slowly too, just slowly wasting away.

yes she can actually live longer if you feed her less often (a large ccrickets every week) and not too warm, and who knows you might find an ootheca one day in her cage! they do not live for too long after her last ootheca, it is sad i know but that's the way it is.
