Ok its been about two months and been trying to breed my shields and for the life of me the female still goes into her defense mode and strikes the male and half the time he will go into the same posture. So does this mean they are still not ready as I know some species are quicker to breed then others but sheesh I think maybe since there is a little over room temperature they are slow to mate or something else.As the females got very thick figures and still got the defense mode and when they go into the display it even scares me and have been attacked but not bitten. So I am wondering if these two females need major counseling or give them some tranquilizers to help then relax and give in to the male!my procedure is to first get the male and then then female and place the female on a net cage or in my tank and then get the male as close as I can without any eye contact or anything but the female usually always eventually sees the male and the male is struck at and I have bred the rhombodera basalis and succeeded but this species is a rhombodera longa. So not sure what the problem is either this one species has a more aggro issue over its other sub species something and the female will remain in her defense pose and she wont grab the male usually but strikes at him only and her pose gets me a little spooked as she has attacked me when I only sometimes try to clean her enclosure and want to remove her to clean it!

THat happened to my hierodulas, and after about 1 and a half months, I got impatient and just put the female in the males tank along with some crickets. THe next day I witnessed mating, and the day after the mating was done, however the crickets and the male himself were gone.

Put him on her back. You can either have him on a surface and then put him really close to her back and nudge him onto her, or just pick him up by the thorax and place him on her back. Sometimes works.

Well he just keeled over and died so going to need a stand in replacement male if anyone can spare one or two!

well when or if you get a male. Try to have the male's antenna(don't feel like spelling correctly) touch the female's back, chances are the female won't notice, but the male will and start looking for the female with his antenna and jump on.
