strange posture

went to move my female chinese and she went into this posture was she trying to play dead?



 
I've seen that pose fairly frequently in my crebroters and they do it when they're disturbed as a defensive posture. I would imagine it's the same type of thing, startled and being defensive.

 
No. She is making herself more elongated. In the wild this makes the mantis look more stick like to blend in better and hide. Mantids that play dead often fall to the ground motionless.
