I was given a female so i could mate her and take care of her, however she has been eggbound for several months, UNTIL TODAY! I came home to her guarding her ooth, a pink ooth, though. Never seen this before and dont know what to come of it...thanks for looking!

All the best,

Andrew

yeah, im happy that she is no longer eggbound; but whatever caused her to get eggbound might be the reason for the pink ooth...

Wow!

Did you feed her before taking the photo? She doesn't look very emptied out.

Maybe she is saving another ooth to surprise you with later. :)

Still, it is good that she laid at all after all that time.

nope! yeah, she is still quite "bloated" after laying... ....but at least she laid! :D

she was never mated because the males 'sensed' her eggboundness and never mounted and always flew away....so its not fertile :( ....wish it was tho!!! :)

and nick, yeah she must feel loads better! but it looks like she still has somethin left...hopefully she will either lay again and get all the bad eggs out (if she hasnt already) or ill try to mate her and hope she lays...my male is gettin older tho :wheelchair: ;)

I was thinking that...pink lobata nymphs... ...and nope never heard of it...for any specie, they are usually (for this specie) just brown/tan/grey-ish...

Yeah I'm happy, but i just wish knew why it was pink! I was hoping people had had something like this happen before but i guess this is a first in mantis history! (The pink ooth)

What ever the reason, you now have one heck of a Christmas tree ornament with the yuletide colors(reddish-green) :santa: Maybe in 50 years your grandkids kids will have it on their tree like a heirloom?
