I attempted mating a couple of my Chinese mantids last night. Everything seemed to start off fine, but I don't think they ever actually mated. I can't account for what went on while I was sleeping, but they've been like this all day. I tried to separate them, but he's got a good grip and I don't want to risk injuring them. Will he eventually get off of her?

I guess they can't stay like this forever, but they've been like this for about twenty hours now. I've read that mating takes hours sometimes even days, but this just seems ridiculous, <_< because they're not really doing anything.

I wouldn't try separating them, as I have tried it and ended up causing the male to injure the female by fighting to keep his grasp and piercing her abdomen. Boy did I feel like a fool! So just try to be patient and let him piggy back. But try to keep an eye out and remove him asap after he disembarks. ;)

Remembering when I had my second son, my husband was so afraid I was going to have it at home and no one would be there so clean out its nose/,,,///,,, I finally told him, there was no doctor when Jesus was born, and after that a light bulb went off in his head and he was ok, so to get to where I am going, in the wild, no one is there to help them, which they dont need our help, we just hinder them, so when they are done, he will sit for awhile or she will eat him or he will just get off ;)

You can just pull him off. It won't hurt anything. Normally the male will connect pretty quickly. If that happens again just blow on him a quick breath or make her move. That often will make him start doing something.

I've had some Wahlbergii only stay attached for 12 hours, most of mine stayed 24. I had one set stay for 36 hours.
