Our plant director retired today so we had a huge chicken dinner and decided the Divisional Mantis needed to join in

I'm trying to lose some pounds from thanksgiving!

Neat. I'll go tell my chickens that if they don't speed up for winter laying, they'll be off to the mantids. ;)

Nice! I would share my dinner with my mantids as well, but somehow I think pepperoni pizza isn't as nutritious as chicken.

I just did the same thing last night. Most of my adult Gongy's went for it, as did a few of my stick mantids (not all). Just little peices. Once they tasted it, they latched right on.

I soooooo wouldn't say that ANY of these things we're trying is "all right". I'm just putzing and not really doing any kind of proper experiment. She hasn't DIED from it (yet), so I've got THAT going for me. I'd MUCH prefer to just stick with BB's (gutloaded or coated) because there's a big body of evidence saying it won't kill them.

I'm hoping to have a backup system for when I have another food crisis.

But I WILL say for a fact that Shiela (my bed-ridden Idol) was MUCH more enthusiastic about a wriggling cricket in tweazers than a motionless peice of chicken - or for that matter, a motionless cricket!

Did I preface that enough...? ;-)

I would think raw meat might even be okay, as long as it's clean. I mean, we don't cook their crickets and roaches for them.
