Keket and her brother Ptolemy are two Blepharopsis mendica who are growing at a very slow pace. So whenever there is a molt, it's a big event.

While celebrating her L6 birthday, Keket encouraged a small cricket to join the festivities. Happily the cricket hopped up onto the table. Keket was

very happy indeed that the cricket gave her such a tasty a birthday present.

Cute... cute ... cute... they are really small... right?
Yes Denise. They are really small. It's another species I'm trying for the first time, thanks to my friend Vlodek. I'm guessing the molt to adult is an explosion since I have handled these as adults. The adults are small, but considerably larger than the L5s to sub-adult.

haha... Well I am really excited for the explosion.. so I can see it well enough to tell if male or female... I have 2... I can't see them well enough to tell if there is a difference in them..

Congrats on the molt! Great photo, love those eyes.

Mine has a worm...
The worm is bigger than the mantis. :D

I'm glad both B. mendica that I send you are doing great. :) This species grows slow but its worth the wait.

Vlodek ---- Slow? HA ! It's now almost May and both Keket and Ptolemy are STILL subadults. Much of that, I think, has to do with a cooler-than-optimum environment and a lower quantity feeding schedule. I've just transferred them to larger housing and increased temperatures to a range of 26 to 30 deg C,

That is a fantastic photo, Digger. They have such amazing patterns - even in their eyes!
