As many of you know, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are two bills in Congress that if passed would impose harmful regulations on businesses and could censor the Web.

Millions of people and companies are against it including Google, Wikipedia, facebook, and myYearbook. The Senate will start voting on PIPA January 24th.

Let Congress know you don't want to censor the Web!

I whole heartedly agree to restrict such an expansion of the presently too severe overseeing that G is doing for the sake of national security. They need to worry about our borders rather than our internet world.

i read somewhere, ill try to find it again, but that obama pulled this back...from what I read they will no longer be doing this :D

success...i had been spreading the word like wildfire at work making everyone sign, lol

Hi, Paul. I took care of this on a link from Wikipedia, but yours didn't work for me. Could you tell us what you consider to be the "harmful regulations" that would be imposed by these bills? Sunny and I worked out an ominous SOPA scenario on our way back from Walmart, but I would like to hear your views.

my thoughts are it is bad and well videos of mantis species could prob be taken down or banned along with alot of other content on the internet!

Till they take all my mantis, I'll post what I want! When I want! Don't let them scare you, this is not Russia or China and it won't be for a long time to come bud, we tend to stick to our guns here the USA and bad laws do get overturned every day if the do happen that is.

If we don't stand behind our freedom and our country then it may happen faster though, you alway's have a choice, even if you don't like any of them you still must pick one or don't cry when you lose something, lol.

Like the rest of you, i'm delighted that the bills did not pass, but I am old and bitter and cynical and I see this as a defeat for an old power base consisting of the movie and record industries and their lobbyists and major websites that were at risk of being closed under the new laws. It was, apparently, the closing down of some of these sites today that made enough SOPA proponents , six republicans I believe, to reverse their stand and scuttle the bill. The old order changeth for the new, and in this case, I'm in favor of the new. Welcome back Wikipedia!

And i agree with you Paul; leave those mantis pix alone! :D

House backer withdraws Web anti-piracy bill

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - The Texas Congressman whose proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) prompted dozens of websites to go dark or run protest messages this week said Friday he is pulling the measure from consideration "until there is wider agreement on a solution."

"I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy," U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

"It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products," Smith said.

By the way, what I just did there, posting a story from another site, is REALLY what SOPA was about. They want to suppress the free flow of information across the internet. Too much of the real story slipping past the gatekeeper-media into the hands of people able to connect the dots. They don't want those people being able to sight news sources to back up their perspective on things.

Aside from that the dinosaur media need a new source of income since more people turn away from mainstream sources each day.
