I came home today to find a black spot/growth or something between my mantids antenna (See picture) :S!

He seems to be cleaning ok, like he normally does. Anyone have any idea what I can do/is this a problem??

Any help appreciated!!!!

Took him out and it was only that big from gravity.. it looked like chocolate body paint dripping down his face... but he was trying to clean it off. Do they produce secretions of any kind from their head??

It doesn't look like a black spot. I believe it is regurgitated food/water - much like how when you catch a grasshopper, it regurgitates liquid out of it's mouth. My mantids regurgitated too, but only after I feed them lots of food and hold them roughly (close to the point of defense mode).

Looks too dark to be puke, but maybe!!??

What are you feeding him? could be part of a feeder he cant get it off.

Mine will puke all over the walls if overfed <_<

P.s. I looked at the pic again, I change my mind, it's barf ! :p

It is "vomit." Not uncommon. However, it can lead to death if it doesn't stop. Try witholding food for a few days but continue to mist. You may have gotten some bad food.
