I figured out a technique that allows viewing of the underlying structures of a mantis!

Here is my Blue Flash female (again) revealing her innermost secrets. Not sure if those are ligaments, veins or cartilage. Maybe a little of each? Click on full size to see all the details!

Henry: You have done it again and it is crazy good for the study of a typical mantid's makeup.

Um... OK, this was intended as a joke. I thought I would be called out on it immediately since I just posted a prank the day before (using the same source photo). I guess this joke was a little more convincing. Didn't intend to mislead too much. Just wanted to make you scratch your head for a minute. Sorry if anyone thought it was real.

I created the internal structures using plugins in Photoshop CS4. The fractal algorithms do a great job of imitating organic growth (because organic growth uses the same or similar algorithms). So a few layers of that under the original. I then made portions of the original transparent to create the illusion you are peering inside the carapace. I wasn't too happy with how the head turned out but the raptors and thorax look great!

Here are the internal layers fully exposed so you can better see what I did...

Hope you all can take a joke! ^_^

Well, you had already sent email about the convincing photo you had created....

Anyway, you're creating these artsy and freaky photos. Now if you make have a legit photo, no one will believe you now. :shifty:

Ha-ha! I know. I can't believe people didn't figure out the Glass Mantis is a puppet and that I paint my Oxyopsis gracilis nymphs.

Just kidding... But I will be getting some crazy species people may doubt after this.

it almost looked like electricity running through the nerves, lol. nice photoshot bro.
