Hi. It is interesting that there are Hierodula species that are found in areas that go through winter.

Hierodula patellifera from the Orient ranges up into Korea (in a book said to be spreading northward there) and Japan (not Hokkaido)

Hierodula transcaucasica from Armenia and Georgia (the country). Said to be from Afghanistan, Turkestan, Iran, Central Asia, Turkmenistan. too. And in Crimea. And Nepal (http://www.orion-berlin.de/bibl/ehrmann/Ehrmann,%20R.%20&%20Borer,%20M.%20(2015)%20-%20(E-159)-Mantodea%20(Insecta)%20of%20Nepal%20an%20annotated%20checklist.PDF).

What book is this?

Hierodula is one of the most common mantid genus you can find in middle and northern part of China, along with Tenodera and Statilia. They do have a higher diversity in the south but I don't think it's a tropical genus.

So do you find many Hierodula species in the mountains in southern China then?

I will notify you when I find it... It was not a very good book, more like a book for children I think.

Edit:

Actually now that I think about it, I might have read that they are spreading up northward online somewhere.
