This is on my patio underneath my neighbors patio (if that makes sense), I can't tell if it is a mantis ooth, you will have to excue the quality I took the pic on my phone. It is grey and looks to have either a hole or a hollow part at the base of it. I am not sure what it is, if it is indeed a mantis ooth (I should be so lucky) how should I get it down and how should I care for it?

It is an ooth but it looks to have been painted over. It is probably long since hatched.

hum, my eyes are going, but it looks like a paper wasp sack
Looks like a European ooth.

If it was that brittle it had probably been there for years.

Just reviewed the photo, it appears to have one made right next to it, it is wasp egg.
I don't see that at all. Do you mean paper wasp or mud dauber type? It looks like an old ooth from that angle to me. I've found many old ooths that crumbled when removed.

When I click on the picture it looks like an abandoned Dirt Dobber (might be spelled wrong) nest
