Hi, I just had a second Tenodera sinensis ooth hatch yesterday. At first one nymph came out over a period of two hours. Then, three more, followed by some that dried up while exiting or never unfolded while hanging from the ooth. After spraying the container, I had two more nymphs try to exit the ooth, to no avail. In total, probably 10 nymphs exited the ooth, but only 4 survived. That was yesterday/last night. Today, I added soil as a substrate, and sprayed the container again. I'm at a loss. I don't know if I should heat the container up, prompting more nymphs to hatch, or if heating would only dry them out. I know this species is supposed to hatch out in mass, yet they did it in waves, with none hatching today. Does anyone know if I can even expect more nymphs to hatch? This ooth was placed under the same conditions as another ooth that hatched perfectly a couple of weeks ago. Any ideas?

I have had this happen once before. Just keep it warm and humid. You may still get a decent hatch out of it yet? These guys are usually more of a burst hatching type. But like i said, i did have a chinese ooth hatch in like a period of a week. It only happened once though.

I have had it more than once myself, no idea why it happens, I think the female takes forever to lay it and that makes them hatch at diff times, but is only a guess. ps, dont change how u r keeping it now.

Thanks for the replies guys. So far, nothing. It's still in the same conditions as before, I had just feared that the eggs have dried up or something, but fingers crossed. It would be interesting to see why this occurs all randomly with this species. Will keep you updated, and thanks.
