Sphodromantis sp.

Here I've used 2 flashes, fired wireless off-camera - both flashes is equipped with softboxes

The lens is equipped with two extension-rings at 48mm, which gives about 1.5 : 1

Could you take a shot of maybe straight-on into the mouth? This macro equipment could prove useful to better diagraming the mouth parts of a mantis, as I doubt those people who wrote the books/drew the pictures decades ago had the SLR equipment we have today. Maybe try and get one to open his mouth too, so we can see the different layers of mandibles and the sort. I didn't even know there were fine hairs on the mouth parts before this picture, I can't imagine what else I could be missing.

They had micro- and stereoscopes, so no problem. They had the equipment alright.
