To add confusion to all of these Stagmomantis species (the new re-introduction of floridensis, the huge "carolina" Ryan's friend found and whether or not its a hybrid) and limbata, california, gracilipes, amazonica... and the many more species, a YELLOW/GOLD mantis was spotted (photographed). A Biologist from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) named Brent Anderson saw this praying mantis and snapped a photo...he was doing field research of organisms being affected by the Kissimmee River Restoration. (In addition to this yellow mantis, he found some Mantispidae). This YELLOW Stagmomantis perplexes me; is it a RARE yellow color morph, or a new species? I'm pretty sure it is a color morph of umm...carolina or floridensis? My consensus: rare yellow color morph of Stagmomantis floridensis. I have reached this consensus, because of 1.) Not many people have raised floridensis and know much about it's other colors and B.) looks too slender to be a carolina, but its head looks like a carolina body part. Now this is all opinion and have no idea, just knowledgeable guesses. Thanks for reading and enjoy! (this image IS real and NOT faked)

I had an orange Carolina as a nymph, but it mismolted at L6. It was found in Missouri. It was that color, but they don't look like the same species. I didn't know that they were rare, or else I would have taken photos, but I had so many...

ok, now i feel dumb  ...never used bugguide.net before... :p never knew of its existence! (at least my other knowledge still helped me find the answer! :) )

Def a S. floridensis. You say they are back in culture? Somebody needs to get some of this color morph going in captivity.

Nice mantid. It looks like floridensis to me. As for the yellow coloring, it's nice to know that floridensis is capable of becoming that color.
