I don't know why it's taken me so long to try this:

A few minutes ago, I decided to have Nikki Mantis celebrate Thanksgiving a day early. Took a cricket-sized sliver of no-salt deli turkey (for sandwiches, not the actual bird) and put it to her mandibles.

She tasted for a few seconds, then grabbed it from my fingers and polished the rest off quickly.

Yes, I know a processed meat may be a risky feed. But I'm very surprised she excepted this dead meat (she's very well fed, otherwise). Has anyone else experimented with unorthodox feeds like this (and not seen unhealthy side-effects?).

Some peoples mantises eat bannanas, honey, chicken, and some fish occasionally. It depends on whether or not a mantis want it. :p

My mantis Deirdre loves apple, and if I run out of feeders on a weekend when the pet store is closed, I feed chicken for a day if the mantids are hungry I can get some more. I had a mantis eat potato once and it went crazy and started threat displaying. I'll share Thanksgiving dinner with my mantis family :)
