Two of my H. Majusculas fell within a few minutes of each other.

This is a pic of my female. She was the second to fall and she landed pretty hard. I heard it from across the room. When I looked over she was at the bottom and not very responsive. One of her claws will not open and she has a big brownish red spot on her face. I didn't see this mark a few minutes ago so it must be from the impact. She is very sluggish. Do you think she will make it?

This Is the first to fall. He seems to be doing better and very responsive. He has the same coloration on the face as the female, but not as bad. I had recently posted a thread stating that this male was puking some god awful smelly stuff in his enclosure and wasn't eating very much. I have been noticing that he scratches his back a lot lately. He will also swing his claws up and down really fast while arching his back as if he is about to molt. Yesterday When I took him out to drink some water I noticed a slimmy but hard black mass that looked to be coming from under his exoskeleton where the thorax meets the abdomen (not sure if the terminology is correct). I completely removed it and he seemed to be doing much better. Today I see this:

This has to be why he was vomiting all the time and not eating. Does anyone know what this is? Is it something alive? Is there anything I can do?

So sorry man :(

Ive never seen an injury if that scale before. You can let both of them rest on flat show containers, but i think the female is badly bruised and possibly bleeding on the inside. If you keep fer flat instead of upside down, it might go down a little. Good luck :(

That's really terrible. I don't think either mantid will make it :( Like Hierodula said, the female looks very badly bruised. The male appears to be bleeding, and what you wiped off was probably a scab. I'd leave it alone now and see what happens. If I were you I'd redesign their containers so that if they fall, they fall on something cushioned, like maybe some dirt. :)

Yeah. My female is definitely not going to make it. She is not moving too much at all now. I removed the black mass from my male and I thought I got it all. Then He started doing this:

I noticed that there was still some of the black stuff in his back. It was if he was saying, "hey, you forgot some." As soon as removed it he perked right up. Now he is exploring all over my table. Looks like he may make it.

Sorry to hear about your mantids but it's good that he is perking back up.

Also, we have the same speakers :balloon: We were watching the same game too

Thanks. I think it was the 49ers game. I was upset that I couldn't watch the Bears game because of where I am located.

I decided to recycle her energy back into the universe. My Budwing was happy to accommodate us.

The thought of doing this broke my heart. However, after seeing my beautiful girl going through the circle of life felt much better than not seeing her go anywhere. Maybe I'm not right upstairs, but my Budwing is happy and she put her out of her misery as fast as if she was put in the freezer. I hope I don't catch flack because they would of never meet in real life.

at least her life is being used as energy to produce new ones. Rest in peace :innocent: Its Sue right? the mantis that fell?

Sorry for your loss. This species is somewhat notorious for falling during moults. It is imperative adequate grip via branches, etc are secured to the lid for the moulting process to be successful with such a large species. Especially the female gender.

Whoa! How long is she?

Also, how long do your adult males usually live? Cause i have a 4 week old male and a 2 week old male who are both adults. My female is still subadult, so i hope they don't die before they mate
