My adult female Budwing mantis laid an ooth about a 1-2 weeks ago. I have never mated her and the person I purchased her from told me she has never been with a mate, so I automatically assumed the ooth was unfertilized. Assuming the ooth was unfertilized, I decided to slice open the ooth out of curiosity to see what the inside of an ooth would look like. As soon as I sliced it open, I immediately thought I eff'd up and shouldn't have done what I did. Inside the ooth were tiny, little eggs. Did this ooth contain life?

No. They're just infertile eggs. Many insects will lay them if they go too long without mating.

That is normal. Those eggs don't seem to be arranged properly though.

Oh alright. I just assumed an infertile ooth wouldn't contain any eggs inside.

It's probably because of my terrible slicing skills. I was using a pretty dull knife and the foam was pretty hard to penetrate.
