Hi,

I set out some pit fall traps with a beer/banana/pear mix soaked cotton balls last night. And this morning I found that I caught some common ants, fruit flies, june beetles, harvestmen, and these little beetle like bugs:

I have never really seen these before, so I have them in a small conatiner with a piece of apple. Until I find out what they are and if they would be worth keeping ;)

I was thinking something in the Cydnidae family.

From what I have noticed on similar looking insects online I do not believe these are beetles. They do look like they could be but after looking at them closer they look more like a shield insect/stink bug.

They seem to like apples :D

I caught another one of these in my pitfall trap :) Now I have a group of four :D

I usually don't rely on just my thoughts on what exact species anything is. I usually start a thread somewhere just to make sure I am correct or to see what everyone else thinks.

You indeed have stinkbugs! Im not sure what species they are but I've seen them many times before here in Florida. Try not to handle them directly, they will release their potent smell under any circumstances; the slightest movement can startle them.

I was handling them fine when I caught them ;) No smell or anything. And they are rather slow moving right now.

Maybe they are drunk off the fruit/beer mix ;) :p

I am more towards the NE of the USA, in Michigan.

They look like Cydnida, but they also resemble the ones like you posted.

The tip of their abdomen is a different, lighter color than the rest of their body.

I was just holding one, but my camera wouldn't focus on it. They kind of move in a jerky motion.
