OK so this is probably boring to anyone that has kept mantises before but I thought it was a good catch.

Never boring to watch a mantis catch prey! Although it is more fun for me to watch an adult female Chinese Mantis grab a huge grasshopper.

Here is a video I found of an adult female Mantis religiosa killing a snake!

This seems to be her "thing" now because she did it again today. This time she jumped from much farther away and higher. She did catch it despite falling to the floor so she has quite some skill considering I have others that miss probably 50% of the time with the prey right in front of them.

Maybe it is easier to strike like that instead of right in front of the animal. Maybe she knows that and uses that technique.
