i have (had) 6 one i saw today that one was eating one that had just molted,.. is this an isolated event or should i separate them?

food isnt the issue i fed them all a bunch of bb flies a few days ago ,

I have heard from someone else that theirs do this, I haven't seen it and I keep about fifty together in many tanks. So maybe it is an inherited trait, NOW, not meaning that they inherit it so to speak, but that the ones they came from were eating each other to a big degree. Do u understand what I am trying to say? Cause I can't seem to say what I mean. Kinda like some certain races like to eat fish and others don't, but because that is what they are raised on, that is what they perfer to eat. So just b ecause they eat other insects, does not necessary mean they will eat each other, although they do.... someone help!

Oh ps, are u feeding them everyday? I just reread your post and u said u just fed them a bunch of bbflies a few days ago? They need to eat every day and have extra available every day to stave off eating each other.... thanks! <_<

Im suprised to see this post because i was told they where one of the best species to have togother...My bro's ooths just hatched so i will see if they have any cannabilism but your best bet is to seperate them ABbuggin....I do that most of the time because i thought the same with my ghost's and they started eating each other at L2 L3 so i dont trust them togother bc they sometimes eat each other bc they dont have to look for food the other mantids are there they will eat each other so your best bet is to seperate them bc cannablism just happens terittory jus different things so good luck with those violins and when they have ooths let me know maybe we can do a trade i got so many species right know..!!!!

well same thing could be said bout gambians one time I thought they could be put together in groups and for a while it was the case till one male decided to take his aggressions on a fellow male and play eat thy neighbor

LOOOOL haha that sucks what a bumber the only thing i have problems with is feeding the nymphs when they are small i loose so many!!

You cant be feeding them enough if gongys are munching each other, all species of mantis will and do eat each other but gongys are probably the most tolerant to living communally of all, if your going to keep them together feed them every day. If a few flys don't get eaten and die in the tank so what, I would rather waste a few flys than loose one of my mantis.

They will also need there own space, what size cage are you keeping them in? This maybe the problem if food is always available.

They are good together as I said earlier, I rarely have a problem keeping mine together, more food will solve the problem, if I only got to eat a few times a week, well lets just say Hubby would be in great danger!

They tolerate each other perfectly fine, but if they are not well fed around the time they shed, don't be surprised to loose a few. I've only lost 3 to cannibalism, and each one was because I didn't keep them fed around the shedding period (ran out of flies).

I haven't seen it a lot either, but sometimes it does happen

What the buck is a gong-gong?
"gong gong" is a common corruption of "gang gong," which dates back to the American TV series, The Gong Show, which aired in the 1970's and 80's. One of the three judges could stop a miserable act by hitting a large gong. When several judges decided to hit the gong simultaneously, their action was dubbed a "gang gong" ( though not a homonym, and thus like "what the buck," it suggests "gang bang," thus titillating the audience and avoiding censure by the censors). When we deplore the sad mediocrity of modern T.V. shows, it is good to remember shows like this and reflect that, if anything, standards have improved from rebarbative to banal. Or perhaps not.
