I have a pair of WC Tenedora and i cant take them out to mate because they just fly, how should i go about mating them because i read Ricks pinned topic and they keep flying when i try.

Thanks

If you fatten up the female, she won't be able to go far. ;) You will only have one flier, and you may just have to wait until he settles down.

 Sometimes it isn't easy.

I guess being wild caught, they are not accustomed to being handled, and may be frightened.

You could try opening the males container while he is busy eating.

Try to move calmly and slow around them. Swaying back and forth, can fool them sometimes, but then they might fly on you!

Generally females only can fly a short time after becoming adult. She should not really be flying. Are you sure you have a male and a female?

they trick me i swear, they are transgendered mantises..............
Lol! I had trouble determining the gender of Chinese mantids at first. A couple of them had me pretty confused until they were subadults, but at that stage and adult, they weren't fooling me anymore. :tt2:

Females can fly when they are really thin... But only then... and it's not that great of a flight either. Why are you worried about flying? I let mine fly around my room some then put them back up. You have to handle them differently sometimes to gain control. One way is between the abdomen and thorax so they can't claw you and draw blood. If they aren't flying, letting them crawl works just fine.

Just put the male and female in the same cage and it should all go well just give them time. I've had only 2 "missmatings" so far. You should be fine.

What is this I've heard about clipping a damaged wing? Couldn't you clip a good wing to stop flying? I wouldn't, but it's an option. I don't even cut bad, crumpled wings. I think it would hurt, so I let them be.

I have only clipped once, and only because a wing interfered with my mantid's walking.

It is probably not a good idea to clip the wings of a male when you intend to breed him. I usually give my mantids' the whole room when I let them mate because I want the male to fly away from the female rather than be eaten.
