I know how to pack and ship mantids but what is the best way to ship an ooth?

The same way really. I just wrap it loosely in some type of soft packing material and place in a plastic container which then goes into a box. I also sometimes just fill a box with foam peanuts and place the ooth in the center. If it is inside a hard, sealed container inside the box give at least one small air hole.

Depends on time of hatching too. If your ooth is close to hatching, try to put in a container that will support the nymphs, nothing worse than a hatched ooth with dead nymphs. Ck the heat index of where u r shipping it. If to be in mail a long time, give airholes and a light misting of water, light is the key here, or mist it good the day before putting in the mail so it has time to dry off, but still has moisture to support the trip, if sending in the winter, a heat pack and insulation is vital.

Thanks guys. Ive never shipped an ooth but with any luck I will have some soon. I dont think I want to keep them so more than likely I will be selling/trading them here. I just wanted to make sure they will make it from point A to point B safely. :)

If you have an ooth of the type like a Ghost or a Creobroter pictipennis, where it is not likely to be squashed and if it has just been laid, you can take a nice hunk of foam about 2" x 3/4" x 3/4" and drill a hole in it lengthwise to the ooth fits snuggly into it. The seal at least one end and you can mail this in any envelope very cheaply (not less then $.70) and mail it so that it is not machine processed. Tell the clerk that it is alive and fragile. This works very well, bit make sure your recipient knows when it is coming in the mail so that it is not left in the heat of the closed mail box.

you can use plastic tubes or cut out corners of paper plates to use if glued together and toilet paper rolls as well make good shipping containers and fit in a envelope and would keep the ooths safe when being mailed or sent out as I have done all of these at one time or another with good results!
