Does anyone know when after the final molt when a female will start calling? Is there a relationship between calling and feeding? thank you!
In the wild, females need to find a way to attract males to them because 1) some of them have small wings and can't fly and 2) they are full of eggs and are too heavy to fly. So in order for them to find a mate, they release pheromones or "call" during dusk and/or dawn. The chemical they release attracts males to them because males of most species if not all can fly. But they don't release it right after the final molt. They need time to mature and eat. That's what I mean. What do you meen by calling? Like signals, or noises
