I think that we all want a moss mantis. We don't culture them on America, and I don't think they do in the UK. If you find out, let me know.

if we can get malaysian orchid mantids in the US, how can we not get moss mantids from malaysia? lol.

i hope someone from malaysia on the site, stumbles upon this thread & offers to sell me a moss mantis.

I think that these guys are from Ecuador.

We are more likely to get African and Asian mantids in culture because the natives like to collect and sell them to us.

There aren't many south American mantids in US culture.

hmm..

there's this guy from malaysia, on another forum (i'm trying to contact) that posted a thread about him finding three moss mantids.

i just went by his location, so, i assumed they were from malaysia.. if that is the case & he is willing to sell them, would it be ideal to try it out?

i'm guessing it would be a pain to care for them, since, they are pretty much "wild" & no one knows much about "caring" for them?

It might be a scam, because I don't know how you would find a moss mantis in Malaysia. They're in south america, maybe some parts of central america too.

I know a guy who had a mossy mantis in us but hard to keep and he didnt have a pair.

They have been in the US and are now, sooner or later they will establish themselves here if people work at it.

Insects which are illegal to export out of South and Central America aren't all too easy to smuggle, just like Australia... Many of these illegal bugs come from Asia and Africa. If Central/South America and Australia weren't so dang strict, this hobby would be filled with way more cooler bugs!

They had a special on insects of the amazon and the way they kill their prey and the moss mantis was one of the stars! This was on some science channel a few months back!

Would it really be too hard to smuggle an ooth? I'm likely minoring in Spanish, so I'll need to live in a South Anerican country for awhile.

I know of a couple people that have had and have them now but its not my place to name names....As for them being any harder to smuggle out of the country of origin vs other species in other countries thats a subject I wouldnt get into for many reasons one being if everyone keeps posting up the words smuggled, illegal and such on a public forum you may end up seeing the government take a shot at closing down the hobby like they are the herp hobby. All the proof they need to do something is posted up and people will get a nice knock on the door from F&W as well as others.

they are makeing it harder to keep herps they have already banned 9 sp of snakes, one state has benned all exotic herps altogether. shows likw swamp wars and anamal planet make them out to be monsters. sence FL got over run with many herps that don't belong there they want to make everyone pay for it.
