There was a guy who would always leave stuff at the gravestone of Edgar Allan Poe each year at his birthday. He didn't show up this year. I read that in the paper today. Anyone know more?
Oh, sure. That was Joseph W. Walker. As I'm sure you know, last year was the 200th anniversary of Poe's birth. Last October (I guess around the 160th anniversary of his death; I didn't check) I got an Email from Joe saying something like, "When I picked up Poe, drunk as a skunk, in 1849, I thought that his poetry and short stories really sucked. I felt rather bad about this, so I left a token on his grave ever since, hoping that over time, I would change my mind. This is the 200th anniversary of his birth, though, and I still think that his literary work sucks, particularly that Raven ###### [his words, not mine], so next year, I shall start leaving a token at the grave of Virgina Wolfe, another loser, to see if that will help." I shall probably be gone before he gives up on her, but at least, as a young woman, she was a darn sight cuter than Edgar Allan.]There was a guy who would always leave stuff at the gravestone of Edgar Allan Poe each year at his birthday.
