Blue Bottle Flies are more than 4 times the size of house flies. I think the most common flies around here are different from Blue Bottle Flies but they are about the same size. The common flies around here look like this.

I catch the green ones around my house. They are fat as heck. I take my mantids outside and hold them up to the fly and its dinner time. They do look bigger than BB flies sometimes.
