Hi, I'm Henry from California. I'm an orchestral percussionist and plan on teaching music while continuing to perform after college. I own a Leopard Gecko and lots of instruments. I wanted to start out with an Orchid Mantid, but apparently that's for the more experienced owner. I'm thinking of starting my new insect obsession with a Ghost Mantid, so if anyone has owned one I'd love to hear about it! Thanks for the warm welcome and I can't wait to get started.

Welcome, ghosts are a great mantis to start with! Small and fascinating, easy and hardy, great all around!

Hello Henry and welcome to the forum

I've kept Ghosts, and 11 other species too, and you can see photos of them as they aged and some descriptions in my mantid thread. :)

Welcome Henry.

After heavy researching everything Mantis I could find, I also will be starting with Ghosts and hopefully progressing to Orchids. Getting excited to learn how to keep and breed something other then fish and live food for fish.

And yes, while different, I see many areas where the experience with fish will help with Mantises (spelling?). Feed the best food you can, close as can match native conditions, most problems are prevented. Then learn how to improve on strain.  This worked for rare and difficult Killiefish. Should with Mantids.

Hope you keep us advised on how you are doing.

Welcome!!

check out the care sheet for the ghosts if you haven't already.  I've heard a lot pf people say ghost is their favorite, good choice!
