In lieu of the Year of the Rabbit starting up today I got to thinking and realized that it has always puzzled me how no Chinese Zodiac sign was an insect. In several Asian cultures Insects are worshiped and revered for their beauty and abilities. So how is it that the Butterfly, Beetle, Cricket, Spider, or Even Mantis does not make the cut for a Zodiac sign? When you look at the Symbols used one wonders how some of the creatures got picked over insects.
The Symbols are Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, and Rat. Some are revered for strength and wisdom while others are just sly and always up to no good.
But if there was a year of the Mantis it would be a powerful sign with those being born under it having a lot of personality and curiosity, with patience to spare. They would be friendly but can become fierce when provoked and change form into evil looking monsters to ward off evil spirits (like a threat display). Mantids would have no negative interactions with any other sign except for maybe a small snake or baby rat in which case the mantis would always intimidate the person because they were afraid they would be eaten.
