But I know a parking lot behind our house that is crawling around 2 -3 o'clock.

I'm gonna do that tomorrow.

And took a big spot flashlight out there as well.

No moths? Maybe too suburban where you are On nights with a new moon go to somewhere like the park or an open field and set up a light trap

Yeah, a light trap is great.. most nights I can catch plenty of moths, lacewings, and flies to feed my whole crew. =-) Good luck on your bug hunt. I think its half the fun of keeping mantises.

I love catching food for my mantids, but sometimes I feel like it's ridiculous for a 165 pound human being to spend so much energy trying to catch a bug that might be worth 1 calorie of energy.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
